Since the 1990’s, many Catawba citizens, linguists, and volunteers have worked on the revitalization of the Catawba language in both formal and informal settings. This work continued in various ways until 2017 with the establishment of the Catawba Language Working Group. For the last 7 years, this group has gathered to discuss, debate, and decide on a standardized pathway forward, eventually leading to the publication of this first version of the Standard Catawba Dictionary. The contents of this site are under development, and access is restricted to the working group as they continue to produce curriculum and other tools to build on the foundation of the Official Standardized Catawba Language Dictionary.
